Getting ViaVoice to work in OSX 10.4 Tiger
I was very cranky when I couldn’t get ViaVoice to work on 10.4. I installed it and followed all the instructions, but no matter what I did, the system wouldn’t recognize the microphone.
Here’s how I fixed it:
* Go to System Preferences
* Choose “Speech”
* Turn “Speakable Items” on
* Go through the ViaVoice Setup program again. At this point it worked for me.
I hope this helps you, Dear Google-visitor from the future.

I wish I had read this helpful hint before buying iListen voice recognition. I had ViaVoice on my OSX10.1 and loved it but the incompatibility warnings put me off when I bought OSX 10.4.
I still have have the old ViaVoice for Mac OSX version 3.0 CD, do you you know if I could use it in tiger while keeping my voice model in iListen?
it just doesn’t like my voice impediment and is the pits to correct and doesn’t learn the corrections.
The dictionary is pathetic, quite ordinary words are missing
And worse it won’t read back selected text from documents or the Web

I’m not sure if the upgrade will work. ViaVoice has been awfully brittle for me.
