Lucy is getting good at feeding herself

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Lucy really really really wants to eat whatever we’re eating, regardless of whether it’s appropriate for the 10-month-old or not. We’re pretty excited that she seems to love fresh fruits and vegetables. Here she is going to town on a set of grapes.

My checkbook is very happy that we only have six weeks left of formula. Then, no more bottles, forever! Woo Hoo!

Sadie the sorter

Ok, she mastered this toy about two years ago, but she still finds new ways of organizing all the shapes and sorting them accordingly.

We’ve pretty much blown through all the toys we have inside the house. I can’t wait until Spring, so that we can go back to swinging on the swingset and playing soccer and basketball in the backyard.

Millard Fuller

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I’m very sad to learn that Habitat for Humanity founder Millard Fuller has passed away. I did projects with Habitat for Humanity in New Zealand, Guatemala and Thailand over the past few years through its Global Village program, but I never had the good fortune of meeting Mr. Fuller.

Those trips are among the highlights of my life. You meet an extraordinary group of folks on those types of trips. If you can swing it, I highly recommend looking into them. Here’s the schedule.

Holliston’s shovel-ready projects

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Apparently, Holliston has submitted its list of shovel-ready projects to the state.

Some of the items:

- Roadway and drainage improvements on Washington Street, from Locust Street to Brook Street
- Sidewalk and drainage repairs on Norfolk Street, from Franklin Street to Medway
- The front stairs at the Senior Center

I also like that “building a new playground at Goodwill Park” made the list. I’d love to be able to bring the girls down there more often in the summer.

Separately, I’d like to add “fixing my stone wall” and “replacing my gutters” to the list of projects the government should fund.
